A big thank you must go to the team at Motorcycle Law Scotland for all the help with my recent non-fault collision. I was the victim of a car failing to stop at a stop signed crossroads in a village, although slow speed, it caused a significant amount of damage to my bike, destroyed my helmet and I sustained injuries to my hand and back.
As this was my first ever collision in over 34 years experience (mostly in a car), and I quickly discovered that some motorbike insurers operate in unscrupulous ways.
After contacting my insurer to start the claims process, I quickly lost any confidence about their ability to help me. Their claims experience was shocking.
One example of their incompetence was highlighted when they transferred me to a solicitor based in England, rather than Scotland, where I'm based and had the collision. This started ringing alarm bells in my head.?? After a few more dealings with them and the now appointed Scottish panel solicitor, I felt I had no-where else to turn for help.
Thankfully, I watched the live MLS You Tube Webinars during this time. These highlighted some of the pitfalls and practices of some major insurance companies, along with the various methods of coercing you into taking out credit hire and storage agreements for which you may be liable for, at great cost. It also explained that you are entitled to change solicitor’s, even mid-claims process.??
So, I then contacted MLS and asked if they would be interested in taking on my case, as I thought it may not be big enough, I was wrong.??
From the initial call to MLS, the team rallied around me and I was quickly appointed, Thomas, my solicitor and things started to progress very quickly.
My appointed panel solicitors were not too happy about the transfer, but MLS persevered and completed the transfer quickly.??
Liability from the third party was then quickly confirmed.
MLS then worked with my dealer to assess and estimate the damage to my bike. Medical assessment and Physio appointments were also completed/started during this time.??
My bike was finally repaired and returned to me after 6 months, and the claim settled almost 11 months after the collision.
The compensation I received was fair, considering the loss of use of my bike for a whole summer, cancelled trips and the injuries I sustained.
??I would recommend that everyone watch's the MLS You Tube videos to educate yourself about the insurance and claims processes, these will help you in the event you are unfortunate enough to need MLS service's in the future.
I hope nobody reading this does require MLS service’s, for the obvious reasons but if you do, don’t hesitate to get them involved. I hope I never have to use them again but I have peace of mind that they are there if I ever need them again.
Once again thank you MLS.
